Shin Splints!

This can be caused by poor technique, wrong footwear, sudden increase in training mileage, inappropriate surfaces, tight calf muscles and other medical reasons.

Firstly make sure to go to a health professional, podiatrist or a phyiso and get them to check out your shins and possible underlying issues. A Physio a can prescribe a strength program, do ankle mobilisation and massage out those calfs. In the meantime make sure you have adequate rest, change to a non-weightbearing training for a period of time like swimming or cycling.

Ice: rub an ice cube along your shin after training and games.

Anti-inflammatory gel can be beneficial in some cases but ask your physio or health professional.

It may also be worth seeing a podiatrist for orthodics to reduce load on the shin muscles they can also do footwear prescription.
